THE RESURRECTION, THE TRUTH
I recently came across a short story that seemed both credible and delightful. Not only was it enjoyable to read, it was also based on Biblical accounts and references which included a promise of hope. The basics of the article were simple and at first glance, convincing. I simply loved the theme because it had almost everything that I would personally appreciate; however, I decided to do some research before fully accepting it as truth.
Before I elaborate any further on the above, I wish to fast forward to our special Easter celebration of the risen Christ:
The Gospel of John (20:1-9) “ On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. 2- She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved and told them, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him. 3- So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. 4- They both ran but the other disciple outran Peter and arrived at the tomb first. 5- He bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but he did not go in. 6- When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, 7 - and the cloth that had covered Jesus' head, not with the burial cloths but was folded up in a separate place.’ 9- For they did not yet understand the scripture that he had to rise from the dead.”
The above Biblical quote is an actual account of Christ’s Resurrection. It has been verified in all the four synoptic Gospels. The Apostles Matthew 28: 1-10, Mark 16 1-11, Luke 24 1-35 and John authenticate Christ’s Resurrection from the tomb.
As believing Christians we accept and hope in the salvation of our souls because of Jesus’ redeeming Passion and Resurrection. This is the basis of our faith. Christ founded one holy Catholic Apostolic Church. It is Apostolic because Jesus commissioned the Apostles to teach. Christ did not found 2,000 churches! The Catholic Church is the mystical body of Christ. It is a living soul and its soul is the Holy Spirit. During these uneasy times in the Church, we need to remain steadfast and pray for all of our clergy to resolve scandalous issues. In spite of these issues, we should always know, love and defend our Church which oftentimes requires prayers, wisdom and courage.
We also accept the Holy Bible as the living Word of God. Frequently, although the Holy Bible is quoted, there are many discrepancies in the translation of the quotes. When we have true discernment, we are enabled to know the truth and to differentiate the very frequent inaccurate translations that are consistently and erroneously publicized. Bear in mind that the Holy Bible as we know it today, was originally deciphered, translated from the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek by the Catholic Church. Therefore, true and reliable understanding of the Bible is available only through the Catholic Church. Many various Christian denominations will conduct Bible study, however, and I reiterate, their interpretations are frequently inaccurate. Indeed, many of these Protestant churches disagree on the various interpretations of the Bible.
I refer you back to the beginning of this message. If I believed the story that was very delightful and convincing, I may have elaborated on it and erroneously conveyed it in my writings. However, because I questioned its validity and researched it, although disappointed, I learned that it was incorrect and refrained from passing it on. It is significant to always question what you hear/read before accepting it as truth.
1 John 4: 1-4 “ Beloved, do not trust every spirit but test the spirits to see if they belong to God, because many false prophets have gone into the world . 2 - This is how you can know the spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh belongs to God, 3 - and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus does not belong to God. This is the spirit of the antichrist that, as you heard, is to come, but in fact is already in the world. 5- They belong to the world; accordingly, their teaching belongs to the world, and the world listens to them . 6- We belong to God and anyone who knows God listens to us, while anyone who does not belong to God refuses to hear us. This is how we know the truth and the spirit of deceit. ”
***Although false prophets are received in the world, the Christian who belongs to God has a greater power in the truth. ***The New American Bible, 1997-98
