By Mary Sayad
This is our final and last sequel. In order to assist you during your rosary meditations, I have included history and visual scenes of some of the Mysteries. I hope that these reflections will benefit you in your cooperation with God's grace and your quest for holiness.
I will describe how one meditation of each of the Mysteries of the rosary is revealed to me. In addition, I have included the reflection or meditation of the selected Mysteries.
THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES: The Annunciation, The Visitation, The Nativity, The Presentation at the Temple and the Finding of Jesus
The fifth decade of The Joyful Mysteries is the Finding of Jesus in the Temple. **The meditation is JOY IN FINDING JESUS.
It was tradition for Jews to travel to Jerusalem at least once a year to celebrate the Passover in April. Young Jesus' first pilgrimage started at the age of eight. The Holy Family would spend approximately seven days with friends in order to celebrate and pray in the Temple. Jesus was twelve during this particular visit.
Upon their return to Nazareth with a caravan of worshippers, Jesus intentionally turned back to the city. When Joseph and Mary realized that Jesus was not in the caravan, they rushed back to Jerusalem and frantically searched for him.
During his missing three days, Jesus would visit the poor and the sick giving them alms he received. He quietly healed some of the sick while he would inspire others to a stronger faith. Each day, upon meeting some boys, he would accompany them to their schools to both ask and answer questions of the teachers who were simultaneously amazed and annoyed at Jesus' knowledge.
Afterwards, Jesus approached the scholars and scribes in the Temple. His rare handsome demeanor, calm self-confidence and responses to their questions commanded their attention. All in attendance were confounded at young Jesus' knowledge, his accurate answers and his wisdom. This was the third day when Mary and Joseph found Him speaking in the Temple. After they returned to their home in Nazareth,, Mary prepared a celebration for Jesus and invited His friends.
As I pray this Mystery, I hope that my search for Jesus will culminate in my heart and mind. His all encompassing love and goodness inspires me to continue to search for Him in my family, friends and everyone that I meet.
THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES: The Agony of the Garden, The Scourging at the Pillar, The Crowning of Thorns, The Carrying of the Cross, The Crucifixion
Here, The Crucifixion is the last and final Mystery. **The reflection of this Mystery is PERSEVERANCE.
It is difficult for me to imagine such heinous cruelty and inhumane treatment of anyone, especially Our Lord and Savior, Jesus. How were they able to drive nails into the hands and feet of the condemned? Why were they so brutal and barbaric? Although I believe and accept that Christ was mistreated with much hate, I am unable to logically comprehend his unjust suffering and ultimate execution. His Mother watched his suffering and remained with Him until His burial. How her heart ached with love and unspeakable sadness! Mary, most sorrowful mother of all Christians, pray for us! THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES: The Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, The Wedding at Cana, The Proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven, The Transfiguration, The Institution of the Holy Eucharist.
Once again we experience some of the most poignant events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. Each and every decade is very dear to me for they cast out darkness by the light of truth.
The Institution of the Holy Eucharist is the most precious to me. **The reflection and meditation of this mystery is ADORATION.
Jesus freely gives Himself to us through the Holy Eucharist. He becomes one with us and He blesses us with hope, fills us with His love and strengthens us with faith. Envision it and believe it. The Holy Eucharist is the body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ! This is the nourishing, spiritual food that refreshes and inspires me. He infuses me with His Spirit and fills my weak and broken being with hope. Nothing-else in this world has this effect on me. We are truly fortunate to have received salvation through the triumph of Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus - God's divine gift to us. I am reminded that I should daily and constantly praise, glorify and thank God for His Love.
THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES: The Resurrection, The Ascension, The Feast of Pentecost, The Assumption, The Coronation.
Truly sublime and astonishing are the miracles of these unique Mysteries. Each and every one of these Mysteries staggers the imagination.
The Coronation - **The reflection and meditation of this Mystery is TO TRUST IN MARY'S INTERCESSION. She is the embodiment of hope for every woman and every man. Our Blessed Mother was crowned Queen of the Universe, gentle mother and lover of all creation, the chosen handmaid of God and the guardian of virtue.
Our Heavenly Father honored her as the Mother of His only begotten Son and He elevates mothers and all womankind to a higher plateau. She directs us to Jesus, her Son granting us favors through Him. She bids us to trust Him, to love Him and to always seek Him.
***God Our Heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit One in the Holy Trinity form the apex of our existence --
I pray for you and encourage you to pray for each other. Our secular and pagan society seeks to undermine the faith of our children and our families. Prepare your children for defense by constantly being an example of Christian life. When your children participate with you by praying the rosary, attending Mass weekly and receiving the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confession regularly, they learn to love God through you, their parents.
Pass on your faith to your children by planning and explaining how to relate to God. Never allow the world to alter your love of Jesus and Mary. The Bible and the Commandments are the foundation of life. Protect your children from spiritual poverty by emulating Jesus' holy parents, Our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph.
Engrave in your hearts the love of the rosary. You relive the lives of Jesus and Mary through the recital of the rosary. It is our powerful weapon against the evils and deceits of the world. It is our strength during times of impending dangers. I cannot sufficiently emphasize this.
July 16 is the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Please continue to pray the rosary for world peace, especially in the Middle Eastern region and the protection of our military and for their families.
Your companion in prayer,
