    BACK TO SCHOOL
    September 2010

We’re a nation of shoppers and when the summer is over and we’ve got to get serious again, we search for bargains, discounts and rewards while we charge our credit cards for children’s school supplies and new outfits.   It’s both an exciting and stressful time of the year for both parents and children.

There’s plenty of concern for everyone involved. We hope and pray that our children’s teachers are competent and astute educators.  We hope and pray that our children are studious, participate in school activities and interact with their classmates.

Precious gifts from God, our children/grandchildren need tender loving care from the time they’re born until they are grown and independent.  My how time flies!

As conscientious Christian parents, we must always secure our children’s physical, emotional and religious education.  In addition, we should be very conscientious and serious in providing them with the spiritual tools for their future trials and tribulations.  It is our responsibility and duty to infuse in them a strong faith and love of God; and, because of this instilled inner spiritual strength and trust in the Lord, our children will be properly prepared to confidently resolve their future challenges.  Remember, our children’s foundation starts in the home!

Acts 2:25 - “For David says of him ‘I saw the Lord ever before me and Him at my right hand, I shall not be disturbed.’  28 - ‘You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’

There is a definite distinction between the children of God and the children of the world.  The world is dark and distant from the truth.  As fervent Christians, we belong to the society of saints, flooding our surroundings with illumination of Christ’s divine love and teachings.  When we trust in his goodness and the promise of salvation, we will be an inspiration to a comatose culture that lacks spiritual substance.

“The family that prays together stays together.”  Practice this simple slogan and live it with your families so that Jesus’ grace and sanctification consistently stream forth into your homes and workplaces.  Embody the life of Jesus,  Mary and Joseph and raise your children with both the love and the fear of God our Father.

Please continue to recite your Rosaries for our troops, peace in the world, and the banning of abortion, euthanasia and same sex marriage.  May God bless you and your families.

    Your companion in prayer,
